Victoria Rose Mullan (she/her)

Masters Student

My name is Victoria Rose and I am currently working on master’s in psychology at Massey. I’m originally from Ireland but now call Aotearoa home. My research looks at the current state of clinical practice in the area of Rainbow/Queer/Takatāpui mental health. My interest is how clinical training is applied to support the needs of Rainbow mental health in the Aotearoa/New Zealand context. As a mature student, I have worked in mental health and community for about 16 years, returning to study with an interest in how training meets real world practice. I’m also a group facilitator for a Rainbow SMART Recovery group and being involved in this mahi keeps me grounded and learning from others constantly. It forces me to be uncomfortable in the pursuit of something that matters.

What brings me joy?

On a personal level, I love to spend time with my very spoiled dogs whether they are using me as furniture or out walking. I am almost physically incapable of saying no when asked to dog-sit for friends and family. I stumbled into a crossfit style gym a few years ago finding a quirky and supportive community there. I love lifting weights and I just about tolerate the rest of the sport. Professionally, I find so much lasting joy through  I love the moment when the group process takes off, and organic social connections start to form.
